Objective: -Improve the teams ‘ ability to score from in and around the box. U-13 to U- 16
1) Warm-up: 10-20 mins. Penalty box finishing.
Use the box as your grid. Inside the box have a 2 V 1 with the rest of the team spread around the box with soccer balls. The two attackers in the box check and call for a ball from an outside player (should take turns calling so only 1 ball comes in at a time). Once ball comes into grid attackers can combine to try and score or immediately try and score (2 or 3 touches max). This should be repeated for a few minutes and then switch the players. Players on the outside should be moving the ball, either juggling or getting touches, but constantly moving the ball.
CP’s:
- Proper technique for shooting with inside, laces and head. Head- eyes on ball, mouth closed, contact ball with “hairline”, use arched back and arms to generate power. Laces- toe down, ankle locked, head over ball, and follow through. Inside- toes up heel down, ankle locked, contact just behind bunion, and follow through.
- Decision making- power Vs finesse, where to shoot, look at keeper, shoot back post.
- Communication, both to outside players to get the ball in and also between the attackers, slip it, chip, cross, back post, front post, etc.
2. Quick Fire: - 20-25 mins, extend the box 18y to make two grids 18 X 40. Play 3 v 2 in each grid, players can shoot at any time or can combine with one another to create a better shooting opportunity. Modification: if a successful pass is made into other grip the player who made it can move into the grid to support. Once that ball is dead player would return their grid. Rotation can be done on a time basis or first team to score two goals (increased competition).
CP’s:
a. Decisions, do you have a shot, where to shoot, should you pass, can you combine, hold ball etc.
b. Follow shots in incase keeper drops ball.
c. Emphasize shooting technique as mentioned above.
d. Communication between players, checking in, runs, give ‘n’ go, timing of runs.
3. Wing play: 6 V 6 + 2neutral (25-30mins). Half field, extend cones from corners of box to half, creating wing channels. 6 v 6 in the middle with 1 neutral player in each channel. Limit touches of wing player, max of 3, encourage wingers to cross ball but also allowed to play short. Modification: all players play in grid, must make a combination (give n’ go, overlap) to get into channel no pressure in channel. Mod 2: neutrals in channel can be put under pressure. Mod 3: Everyone plays freely, when in channel pressure can be applied; double points if you score from a cross from channel.
